- Angin Duduk is a critical warning sign of cardiovascular disease, clinically known as angina pectoris… Immediate professional medical care is required
- Strict management of LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) levels is the top priority for preventing cardiovascular diseases

JAKARTA, June 9, 2026 — Daewoong Pharmaceutical Indonesia (hereinafter ‘Daewoong’) has collaborated with the Indonesian Heart Specialist Association (PERKI) to host the inaugural ‘Daewoong Media HeartTalk with PERKI,’ a health education initiative aimed at improving public awareness of cardiovascular diseases.

Held ahead of World Heart Day coming up this September, the session shed light on the reality in Indonesia, where many patients still miss the golden hour for treatment because they fail to recognize the danger signs of chest pain in time. Daewoong and PERKI joined forces to inform the public that ‘Angin Duduk’—which is commonly mistaken for a simple cold or body ache, leading patients to rely on traditional remedies such as kerokan (coin rubbing)—is actually a premonitory symptom of angina pectoris, a life-threatening heart disease, and to promote evidence-based medical treatment. Clinically, ‘Angin Duduk’ serves as a critical warning sign of compromised blood supply to the heart, medically recognized as angina pectoris.

According to the One ACS Registry, a large-scale cardiovascular study involving 14 hospitals in Indonesia, 34.8% of patients with acute myocardial infarction requiring emergency care between July 2018 and June 2019 did not receive reperfusion therapy to restore blood flow to blocked coronary arteries. Furthermore, only 21.8% of patients received treatment within three hours of symptom onset. This highlights a critical issue: many patients fail to recognize early symptoms, such as chest pain, as life-threatening warning signs, leading to delays in seeking medical care. In response, Daewoong and PERKI emphasized that chest pain, including Angin Duduk, should not be dismissed as a minor ailment, underscoring the urgent need to raise awareness about seeking prompt medical attention at the earliest signs of symptoms.

At the event, dr. Febtusia Puspitasari, Sp.JP, FIHA, FAsCC, a cardiologist and member of PERKI, warned of the dangers of Angin Duduk. dr. Puspitasari stated, “Angin Duduk, which patients often dismiss with traditional remedies such as coin massage, is in fact a typical symptom of angina caused by reduced blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle.” She added, “In particular, if a crushing pain in the center of the chest radiates to the jaw or arms, or occurs even at rest, it may be a warning sign of unstable angina or acute myocardial infarction.”

dr. Febtusia Puspitasari, Sp.JP, FIHA, FAsCC, FESC, a cardiologist affiliated with PERKI (the Indonesian Heart Association), explained that angin duduk, often regarded as a minor ailment and treated with kerokan (coin-rubbing), is in fact a hallmark symptom of angina pectoris.

dr. Puspitasari further emphasized, “If left untreated and the blood vessels become completely blocked, it can lead to sudden death or acute myocardial infarction. Therefore, patients should immediately seek care at a medical facility for an accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment.”

dr. Wicak Prasetiadi, Head of Brand & Marketing at Daewoong, explained that to address the underlying cause of angina, LDL-C levels should be strictly maintained below 55 mg/dL. dr. Wicak Prasetiadi stated, “For patients who have difficulty reaching target LDL-C levels with conventional statin monotherapy, or who are concerned about the side effects of high-dose statins, a dual-pathway treatment based on a statin and ezetimibe combination—which simultaneously inhibits hepatic cholesterol synthesis and intestinal cholesterol absorption—can be an effective alternative.” He also presented Daewoong’s fixed-dose combination therapy, which combines two active ingredients into a single pill to improve treatment adherence, as a viable treatment option.

dr. Wicak Prasetiadi, Head of Brand & Marketing at Daewoong Pharmaceutical Indonesia, presented Daewoong’s long-term commitment to improving the quality of healthcare for the Indonesian people.

In-Hyun Baik, Executive Director of Daewoong Pharmaceutical Indonesia, said, “Daewoong has been committed to improving healthcare standards in Indonesia for over 20 years.” He added, “Building on this collaboration with PERKI, we will take the lead in protecting public health by working closely with medical experts to disseminate science-based, accurate health information.”
