The Story of Research Innovation Bridging Indonesia and Korea by Researcher Dita

Interview with Researcher Dita at Daewoong ITB Lab
"Building a Bridge of Research Cooperation Between Korea and Indonesia"

After completing her master's degree in Korea, Researcher Dita joined Daewoong ITB Lab, where her journey became not just a career path but a process of realizing her vision. She had a clear dream from the beginning.

"After finishing my master's degree in Korea as a scholarship awardee, I was determined to return to Indonesia and foster research cooperation between Korea and Indonesia. In my academic plan, I wrote that I wanted to start at the university or independent lab level and eventually expand into the pharmaceutical industry. Joining Daewoong ITB Lab is the realization of that vision. I wanted to serve as a bridge connecting Korean expertise and Indonesian innovation."

Connection with Daewoong — "The Moment Our Visions Aligned"
Researcher Dita strongly resonated with Daewoong's vision and research culture.

"Daewoong has a clear vision to grow into a global healthcare leader and a corporate culture that values innovation. Especially their active investment in R&D and their willingness to collaborate with universities and local research institutes aligned perfectly with my values and goal."

She enhanced her capabilities in advanced pharmaceutical research and development by undergoing practical training at the Yongin R&D Center. Then, she applied that experience in practice at the ITB Lab, playing a critical role in introducing advanced drug delivery system (DDS) technology to Indonesia and building the groundwork for technology transfer to the Cikarang manufacturing plant.

Indonesian Research Environment and Challenges — "Challenges Are Opportunities"
Researcher Dita clearly highlighted both advantages and challenges in the Indonesian research environment.

"There are many passionate scientists in Indonesia. However, access to advanced facilities and opportunities for global collaboration remain limited. The gap between academic research and industrial application is also a factor slowing innovation. Yet precisely within these challenges, there are opportunities—an opportunity for us to create change and drive progress."

She emphasized the importance of talent development, standardization of research methodologies, and strengthening industry-academia collaboration. Actively engaging with local researchers, she introduces Daewoong's research goals through academic conferences, seminars, and collaborative lab visits. She especially focuses on aligning Daewoong’s DDS platforms, such as fixed-dose combination drugs, long-acting injectables, and microneedle platforms, with Indonesia’s pharmaceutical needs, thereby creating pathways from research to industrial application.

Lab Operations and Challenges — "Beyond Differences, Towards Cooperation"
"What I focused on most was not only equipping the lab with cutting-edge technology, but also creating an environment where real research, education, formulation development, and innovation could take place."

The most difficult aspect during operations was the difference in research culture. "It was not easy to coordinate the expectations and cultures of research between Korea and Indonesia. But by actively engaging with the local researchers and connecting them with Korean expertise and best practices, I was able to foster mutual understanding. As a result, we built a complementary and collaborative research culture."

Furthermore, expanding research equipment brought a revolutionary change to local research. "Now Indonesian researchers can conduct advanced experiments locally with integrated cutting-edge technologies that support complex drug delivery research. This was the moment when my initial goal—to efficiently optimize Korean and Indonesian resources to accelerate innovation—was truly realized."

Achievements and Growth — "My Growth and Ours"
Researcher Dita felt significant personal growth while building the Daewoong ITB Lab.

"Watching an empty space transform into an advanced research lab has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I grew not only as a researcher but also as a collaborator. Through cross-border collaboration, I developed leadership and problem-solving skills, and above all, it was inspiring to see advanced DDS technologies open new possibilities for Indonesian researchers."

She also emphasized Daewoong’s Win-Win-Win collaboration culture. "There are often challenges such as logistics or regulatory issues locally, but with strong support from headquarters and partners, we were able to solve these problems. We truly work as one big team."

Unlimited education support and smart work policies have also played an important role in Researcher Dita’s research efficiency. "Continuous education helps me strengthen both my technical expertise and leadership skills. The smart work system allows flexible coordination of cross-border collaboration while maintaining a healthy work-life balance."

Future Vision and Goals — "Towards a Southeast Asian Research Hub"
The achievement she considers most meaningful is establishing Daewoong’s very first DDS research lab at ITB.

"I felt great pride seeing an empty space become a cutting-edge lab and watching local researchers use it to drive innovation."

Regarding her future goals, she spoke clearly.

"I want to make Daewoong ITB Lab become the leading research hub in Southeast Asia. I aim to strengthen the collaborative research pipeline, mentor young scientists, and contribute to making innovative DDS technologies more accessible to researchers."

Lastly, she expressed her thanks to her colleagues.

"This lab was not built by my efforts alone. It was possible because of the dedication and teamwork of all my colleagues. I hope we continue growing together and inspiring the next generation of researchers."

When asked to describe Daewoong in one word, Researcher Dita answered:

"Visionary. Daewoong constantly overcomes limits and pursues innovation and growth. That applies not just to the company but also to its people and partners."
