A Researcher’s Dream of Creating a Sustainable Future with Daewoong

"Being a researcher is not just about making medicines in the lab; it’s a continuous process of learning and growing together with others."

This feature shares the story of Sabila, who was selected as a researcher after completing Daewoong’s DDS Program internship. Despite not having a pharmacy background, she has been steadily developing her expertise in formulation research through diligence and passion. Let’s explore her growth journey.

Selected as a Researcher After Completing Daewoong DDS Program Internship

Sabila, having completed her master’s degree in UI Pharmacy, initially faced great challenges dealing with unfamiliar terminology and complex equipment in formulation research. However, it was during the DDS internship that she experienced a turning point in her life.

“At first, formulation-related terms and equipment usage were new and difficult, but with the support of my mentors, I learned formulation development methods, data analysis, and suitability testing across the research process. I also quickly adapted to the Korean research environment and culture, which became a solid foundation for my career as a researcher.”

This experience went beyond being a simple internship and became a strong cornerstone on her path to becoming a researcher.

“I carefully analyze all experimental data and focus on understanding why the results came out the way they did. Research cannot be accomplished by individual effort alone, so I place great importance on active communication and collaborative problem-solving with my fellow researchers.”

She took a leading role in the Nifedipine extended-release tablet research and played a key part in the development of Nexiad DR tablets, gaining the trust of her team as an essential member.

Learning from Failure

Challenges in research do not always end in success. Sabila often faced times when results did not meet expectations, but she says these experiences became valuable lessons.

“Failure is also an important teacher. I try to understand the underlying principles of the outcomes, compare data, and carefully document everything. Sometimes, I consult with senior researchers, professors, or external formulation experts, which broadens my learning horizons.”

This approach steadily strengthened her research skills and helped cultivate problem-solving abilities and perseverance.

Teamwork Blossoming Through Collaboration

Another key aspect that Sabila values highly is ‘communication and collaboration.’ Since research cannot be accomplished alone, sharing experiences and ideas and working together is essential.

“Sharing my progress and challenges, and listening to feedback from colleagues is a great support for me. Although each project has a responsible researcher, we always move forward together to solve problems. Isn’t this the true strength of Daewoong?”

Even as a foreign researcher joining Daewoong, Sabila has never felt like an outsider. Thanks to the fairness and warmth from all colleagues, she built not only a sense of belonging but also confidence.

Experiencing ‘Win-Win-Win’ in the Research Field

Sabila feels that Daewoong’s ‘Win-Win-Win’ collaborative culture means a system where customers, the company, and society all benefit together.

“In generic-dominant markets like Indonesia, developing fixed-dose combination or extended-release tablets provides patients with convenience and cost savings. For the company, this means enhanced competitiveness and reduced R&D costs. And for society, it supports health insurance sustainability and regional pharmaceutical industry growth. This realization of public value is at the heart of Daewoong’s collaboration culture.”

Fair and Growth-Oriented Talent Development Culture at Daewoong

“Daewoong evaluates talents solely based on growth and achievements, regardless of age, gender, or nationality. I never felt conscious of being a foreigner and could focus entirely on my research. This fair culture nurtured my sense of responsibility and ownership.”

Daewoong supports a dynamic environment based on autonomy, responsibility, and fair evaluation. Within this culture, Sabila constantly enhances her competitiveness and continues her challenge and achievements in the research field.

Vision and Message for the Future

Looking ahead, Sabila connects her passion with Daewoong’s vision, focusing on the future of Indonesia and the MENA (Middle East & North Africa) regions. She believes that utilizing advanced platforms like Polycap and Oros has great potential to develop value-added medicines for these regional pharmaceutical markets.

“It’s not only about my own research but growing together with the company, academia, and society. I want to contribute to making the ITB Research Center the No.1 research hub in Southeast Asia and help Daewoong become the leading research center in Indonesia and the MENA region.”

Lastly, she shared a warm message for junior and new researchers:

“Starting out can be very tough and overwhelming. But every mistake and difficulty is ultimately an asset for growth. Never hesitate to communicate with your team. If you keep your curiosity, perseverance, and openness alive, you will definitely see your own growth.”

Sabila’s story showcases a Daewoong employee who boldly embraces challenge, learns from failure, and grows together with others. Her journey is not just as a researcher but as a proud member of the Daewoong family.
