From Classroom to Cleanroom: UI Bioprocess Students Experience Real Pharmaceutical Manufacturing at Daewoong Indonesia

Daewoong Pharmaceutical Indonesia welcomed students from the Bioprocess Technology Study Program, Universitas Indonesia, for an industrial learning visit on January 29, 2026, at its GMP-certified Cosmetic and Stem Cell manufacturing facilities located in Jababeka Industrial Estate, Cikarang, West Java. The visit was attended by 41 students, accompanied by Ibu Retno Wahyu Nurhayati, S.T.P., M.Eng., Ph.D Eng, and formed part of Daewoong Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to strengthening industry–academia collaboration in biotechnology.

The program was designed to bridge academic theory with real industrial practice, allowing students to observe firsthand how bioprocess and biotechnology concepts are implemented within a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. Through this initiative, Daewoong Indonesia continues to support experiential learning and capability building, contributing to the development of future-ready talent for Indonesia’s healthcare and life sciences ecosystem.

A Daewoong Pharmaceutical Indonesia expert explains advanced stem cell therapy and cosmetic manufacturing processes to students from the Bioprocess Technology Study Program, Universitas Indonesia, bridging academic knowledge with real-world pharmaceutical practices.

During the visit, students received technical overviews of stem cell–based advanced therapy products and cosmetic manufacturing using biomaterial technology, delivered directly by Daewoong Indonesia’s production managers. These sessions illustrated how scientific principles taught in university are translated into large-scale, highly controlled production processes, supported by strict GMP standards to ensure product quality, safety, and consistency.

Beyond the technical presentations, participants were invited to explore Daewoong Indonesia’s production and quality facilities through a guided site tour. The visit covered the cosmetic manufacturing area, stem cell processing area, and Quality Control laboratory, offering students a realistic perspective on workflow integration, facility design, and quality assurance systems within a pharmaceutical company.

Ibu Retno Wahyu Nurhayati noted that the visit served as a valuable extension of classroom learning. She emphasized that early exposure to industrial environments helps students better understand professional expectations, operational discipline, and real-world challenges they will encounter as they prepare for future careers in biotechnology and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The program was also considered highly aligned with the Bioprocess Technology curriculum, particularly in enhancing students’ understanding of bioprocess systems, GMP implementation, and biotechnology applications at an industrial scale.
